please no gang signs
This makes me pretty sad, because you have to think about why he does this. When he was over in Afghanistan, one of the soldier’s asked Tony if he would mind taking a picture with him. The genius joked, said ‘please no gang signs,’ when the soldier threw up the sign for peace, before saying to throw it up and going ‘yeah, peace. I love peace. I’d be out of a job with peace.’
And then everything goes to hell.
The soldier who just moments ago asked to take a picture with him, is later shot and killed right in front of his eyes.
And he later is captured, stuck with an electromagnet in his chest, and is forced to watch his friend die with nothing more but a ‘Don’t waste your life, Stark.’
When he returns home, he holds a press conference with his lead in being: ‘I saw young Americans killed by the very weapons I created to defend them and protect them. And I saw I had become apart of a system that was okay with zero accountability.’
When he was over there, he realized that he couldn’t be a weapon manufacturer anymore. He saw the blood on his hands. He realized he wasn’t creating peace, he was creating war.
He probably uses that sign to honor the young man who risked his life to save his. To show he is going to fight for the cause the soldiers were fighting for. What Yinsen was fighting for. He had his eyes opened.
Or maybe I’m too attached to this character and need to shut up.
